CAN A SIMPLE PHONE APP HELP CLEAN UP OUR LITTER?
Using geotags to provide insight into problem areas and commonly found brands and products, Litterati is an app-community that is “crowdsource-cleaning” the planet – one piece of litter at a time. With participation in over 100 countries, the Litterati community is picking up litter and simultaneously collecting data such as identifying brands and mapping problem areas. This app combines technology and human connection to build a data-driven approach to understanding one of humanity’s most complex and challenging global problems. This data will be used to work with companies and organizations, as well as government and individuals to find more sustainable solutions.
Join us for an evening of inspirational story-telling about a unique technological innovation. We will hear from Jeff Kirschner, Founder & CEO of Litterati. Jeff is a captivating public speaker and a TED resident. Over the last several years, Jeff has been a keynote speaker for Fortune 500 corporations, universities, government organisations, and conferences including, Google, Facebook, eBay, the US Environmental Protection Agency, the University of Michigan, University of California, Berkeley Haas School of Business, and 100+ others. Jeff’s passion and entrepreneurial spirit has led him to become the founder and CEO of Litterati: a global community working to create a litter-free planet.

ROLLING OUT THE RECYCLING RED CARPET
We (Isabelle & Briana) were honoured to have the opportunity to participate in and speak at the Recycling Council of Alberta 2018 Waste Reduction Conference last week. Invited by the RCA, we were happy to speak on behalf of our fellow consumers in front of influential recycling professionals, leaders, government officials, and other key waste reduction influencers. Throughout the conference there was a theme on how its on consumers to use their buying power to create change. While this remains true, that voice is still slowly growing and needs help. By attending and presenting at this conference, we were able to showcase that there is a space for businesses and industry to jump ahead of the curve and LEAD the change without depending on and waiting for that outcry from consumers. Being present at such events gives us the opportunity to foster an open dialogue with industry, government and consumers and together break down that “out of sight, out mind” mentality.
We have to thank the RCA for inviting and providing us sponsorship to attend. Without the kindness of our sponsors we would not be able to attend such an event. So, Thank You to Christina Seidel, Executive Director and her whole team at the RCA.
Thank you to the sponsors, Kim Timmer, CleanFARMS Inc., Jim Funk, Jiffy Lube, and Josh Reid, Emerge Knowlede Design Inc. / Re-TRAC Connect, who made it possible for grassroot NPOs and students to attend.
There were many more amazing sponsors that made this event possible and help make Alberta a cleaner, greener province, click here.
