Zero Waste Meetups (Virtual)

November’s Meet-up in 2-parts

It can be a pain when something breaks and you want to fix it but don’t know how. Or that favourite shirt that needs some stitching up, but you’re not sure how? This month’s Zero Waste Meet-Up is all about teaching you how to repair home items. Avoiding the need to toss these things in the garbage, contributing to a less impactful lifestyle.

Repair Café – PART 1

Date: November 21st
Time: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm MST
Location: Pason Centenial Arenas –  204 Community Way Okotoks, AB T1S 1K1
Description: Plastic-Free YYC Team showcasing the Repair Café in Okotoks. Our team will be on the ground trying out the repair café.

We invite you to come join our team at the Repair Café on November 21st. You will need to register with the Okotoks Repair Café and bring a broken item!

If getting there is an issue, our team will be sharing live stories on Instagram so you can follow along and see what it is all about.

What is the Repair Café?
A place where you can bring your broken items from home, and a group of volunteers can help you repair them. You get to learn a new skill, and at the same time, you get to save an item from getting tossed in the trash. You can bring anything to get fixed from clothes to furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, crockery, appliances, toys, et cetera. To learn more about them, check out their website  or follow on Twitter and Facebook @townofokotoks

Repair Café – PART 2

Date: November 26th
Time: 6:00 pm MST
Location: Online – Zoom

Register here

Description: After our team’s visit to the café, we will be speaking about our experience and opening the discussion up on why it’s important to repair and what impact it can have to fix things instead of replace!

We will be sharing our experiences, showing our repaired items, and letting you know more about this organisation. We will also be interviewing one of the organizers, so if you have any questions, make sure to send it to us before November 21st – info@plasticfreeyyc.com

We look forward to seeing you on November 26th!
